

Zhihuan An
Dr. An is an accomplished violinist, conductor, and educator dedicated to cultivating the next generation of musicians. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance from Arizona State University, where he was awarded a Special Talent Scholarship, as well as an Artist Diploma from Texas Christian University and a Master of Music from Campbellsville University — both earned on full scholarships.
Blending performance, scholarship, and mentorship, Dr. An has built a multifaceted career. He began leading ensembles at age 11 and later earned First Prize in regional conducting competition in China. As a performer, he has received Second Prize at the Yanbian University String Competition and Second Prize at the Macauley Chamber Music Competition in Louisville. He has also appeared with distinguished ensembles including the San Angelo Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, Sedona Symphony and
North Valley Chorale.
As an instructor, Dr. An has served on the faculty of Music Maker Workshops and worked as a Teaching Artist with the Phoenix Conservatory of Music. His teaching is marked by consistent student success. Under his guidance, students have served as Concertmaster of the AMEA Middle School All-State Symphony Orchestra, earned placements in the Phoenix Youth Symphony, and secured seats in the AMEA High School All-State Orchestra.
As a respected scholar, Dr. An is the author of a ProQuest-published treatise on violin left-hand technique and creator of a YouTube instructional series designed to support developing violinists. He is also the co-founder of the Youth Orchestra at the Evangelical Formosan Church of Phoenix, where he continues to inspire young musicians through leadership and community engagement. Known for his thoughtful, patient, and motivating teaching style, Dr. An fosters an encouraging environment where students can grow with confidence—whether they are beginning their musical journey or preparing for advanced ensemble auditions.
