Yu-Chen Hsieh(Cello)

Originally from Taiwan, Yu-Chen Hsieh is a dedicated cellist and pianist whose passion for both instruments has shaped her versatile musicianship. She has performed actively as a soloist and chamber musician.

As a cellist, Hsieh has been recognized in several competitions, including First Prize at the Taoyuan Music Competition for Cello and Fifth Prize at the National Taiwan Competition in 2012. That same year, she also earned Second Prize in the National Music Competition for Piano Trio, performing as the ensemble’s cellist.  Hsieh enjoys performing in chamber music settings and collaborating with fellow musicians across various genres. Her background as both a pianist and cellist gives her unique insight into ensemble balance, phrasing, and musical interpretation.

In addition to her performing career, Hsieh is an experienced teacher who has taught privately and in school settings since 2014. She is passionate about helping students build a strong technical foundation while discovering their own expressive voice on the instrument.

Hsieh is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she was awarded the Langford Fellowship and Teaching Assistantship. Her diverse musical background and experience as both a performer and educator allow her to bring creativity, empathy, and precision to her teaching.
